Alfred Maurice McElroy, 93, of Shiloh passed away July 31, 2009 in Mexia. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 2, 2009 in the Shiloh Cemetery. Rev. David Snow and Mr. Neil Bond will officiate. Visitation with the family will be 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Alfred was born April 24, 1916 in Shiloh to Thomas Alfred and Nora Etta Wood McElroy. He was a lifelong resident of the Shiloh Community. Alfred married Lillian Marie Richardson on December 22, 1939. His was very devoted to his family, church and community. Alfred was a retired carpenter. He served his country during World War II in the United States Navy as a Carpenters Mate. Alfred was a longtime member of the Shiloh Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Anna Beth Wells. Alfred is survived by his wife of 69 years, Marie McElroy; daughter, Stella Elaine Bounds of Personville; son, James Riley McElroy of Shiloh; grandchildren, Stephen Ray Morton, Gary Don Morton, Georgia Ann Shelby and Rene Marie Havard; sisters, Bessie Thomas of Mexia, Tommie N. Wells of Houston, Lavette Teer of Groesbeck; and brother, Bernie E. McElroy of Pasadena. All of the men of Shiloh Baptist Church will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
