Aubrey Jones

Aubrey Melvin Jones entered his heavenly home on May 23, 2018 at the age of 77. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Sunday, May 27, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Mexia with Dr. Rick Patrick and Rev. Robbie Boyd officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bill Burnett, Tyler Patrick, Evan Patrick, Bain Smith, David Brannon, Jonathan Brannon, Thomas Boyd, Benjamin Boyd and Marcus Sheffield. Visitation with the family will be from 1:30 pm. until time for the service at 3:00 p.m. Aubrey was born October 17, 1940 in Quinlan, Texas to Lloyd Farris and Allie Ausburne Jones. After high school, he received an Associate of Arts from Tyler Jr. College in 1965 and then attended the University of Texas. Aubrey served his country in the US Air Force. He worked for Gibson's Discount Center and retired from Brookshires after 20 years of service. Aubrey married his loving wife, Barbara Boyd, in North Richland Hills, Texas on May 8, 1970. Aubrey had two passions - the game of golf and the University of Texas at Austin Longhorns. He was a very compassionate, caring man with a big heart. He was the primary caregiver for his mother-in-law during her declining years, a task that he not only asked to do, but enjoyed. Aubrey was known as PePaw to his grandchildren and he loved them greatly. He was so proud of each of them and looked forward, with great anticipation, to their visits. Since Barbara's retirement in 2016, they have enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and taking day trips. Aubrey loved the Lord and looked forward to meeting his Saviour face to face. He was a faithful member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Ennis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Allie Jones; his first wife, Betty Spence Jones; and brother, James Jones. Aubrey is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara Jones of Ennis; children, Karen Patrick and husband, Rick of Sylacauga, AL, Christopher Jones and wife, Sylvia of Katy, TX and Brian Jones and wife, Joyce of Tampa, FL; grandchildren, Tyler and Evan Patrick, Abigail, Bain and Lindsay Smith, Zoe Jones, Aidan and Kayleigh Jones; great grandchildren, Beckett and Emerson Almon and Sophia Smith; and sister, Barbara Terry and husband, Jack of North Richland Hills.
