Barbara Ann Elmore

Barbara Ann Elmore passed away August 27, 2024 in Mexia, Texas at the age of 82. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 31, 2024 in the Farley Chapel Cemetery, in Shepherd, Texas, with Chaplain Larry Holden officiating.  Visitation with the family will be prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Barbara was born January 26, 1942 in Conroe, Texas to Marlin and Alma Lee (Sorter) McCleskey. Her most important blessing, and job, in life was being a homemaker and raising her six children. God and family always came first in her life.

Barbara enjoyed cooking, playing cards and dominoes, working puzzles, working in gardens, and driving others around.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marlin and Alma McCleskey; husband, James Phillip "Ladd" Elmore; and two sons, Phillip and Kirby Elmore.

Barbara is survived by her children, Monty Vassar and wife Carla of Jewett, TX, Wendy Story and husband, Gary of Jewett, TX, Stacy Barkouskie and husband, Mike of Mexia, TX, and Cookie Paceley and husband, Fred of Teague, TX; grandchildren, Kevin Warren, Paula Cox, Eric Warren, Kevin Barkouskie, Justin Barkouskie, Cody Warren, Tiffany Thompson, and Raymond Thompson; twelve great grandchildren; brother, George McCleskey and wife, Crystal of Shepherd, TX.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff and everyone at the Manor Nursing Home for the wonderful care Barbara received during her time with them.  Not only the staff, but the other residents all became good friends, which made her feel right at home. They would, also like to express their appreciation to the Accent Care Hospice staff for the special care given during her final days.
