Betty Reese

Betty J. Reese, 85, of Mexia passed away February 25, 2013 in Mexia. A memorial service will be held at 11AM, Saturday, March 2, 2013 with Chaplain Mary Wilburn officiating. The family will hold a private graveside service at a later date. Betty was born July 6, 1927 in Corsicana, TX to Paul Jones Rash and Buena Vista Madden Rash. She received her Master's Degree in Education from Sam Houston State University. After a teaching career of 38 years, she retired from Mexia ISD. Betty served on the Caritas Board and Gibbs Library Board. She also participated in the library's Story in a Stocking program. She was a member of the Women's Friday Club, TSTA, Retired Teacher Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, Red Hat Club and Happy Strummer Club. Betty was a longtime member of Christ Episcopal Church where she actively participated in ECW, Alter Guild and the choir. She loved to travel and welcomed every opportunity to go places with family or friends. It was evident that she loved God, her family, teaching children and interacting with people. Betty made a difference in many lives. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Paul J. Rash, Jr. Betty is survived by two children, Ben J. Reese and wife, Valerie of Spring, TX and Amy Fleming and husband, Monte of Mexia; grandchildren, Natalie Brown and husband, Travis, Sarah Reese, David Reese, Keith Fleming and wife, Jillian and Brandon Fleming and wife, Staci; great-grandchildren, Jeffery Fleming and Reese M. Fleming. Memorials may be made to the Christ Episcopal Church, Academic Sweater Fund, Gibbs Library or Lara's House.
