Betty Stevens White, 86, passed away August 30, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 13, 1937 in Mexia, Texas to Robert Roy and Dora Mae (Williams) Stevens. She grew up on the family farm with her parents and siblings, where she learned to garden, cook, sew, and developed her love for animals. Betty especially loved their plow horse, Peanut. Having been the youngest of 9 children, she enjoyed growing up with many of her nieces and nephews who were more like her brothers and sisters. She was a lifelong resident of Mexia and a graduate of Mexia High School. Betty married Jimmy Ferguson and they were blessed with three children, Larry and twins, Randy and Kathy.
Later, Betty married Butch White in the mid-1990s, and they spent many happy years together.
Betty’s life revolved around her family. Although she loved her children, her love just grew stronger as the grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchild came into her life. There was nothing that made her happier than being “Granny”. Betty loved dogs of every kind; however, her favorite breed was the chihuahua. She enjoyed raising chickens and collecting butterfly ornaments. No doubt, Betty also loved to play card games (poker) and dominoes (42), as she almost always came out the winner!
Betty had an outgoing personality, enjoyed interacting with people, and always met everyone with a friendly smile. Prior to retirement, she was a Dietary Supervisor at the Haven Nursing Home (now the Mexia LTC) for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Dora Stevens; Jimmy Ferguson, father of her children; husband, Butch White; four sisters and four brothers.
Betty is survived by her children, Larry Ferguson and wife, Ginger, Randy Ferguson, and Kathy Ferguson Jackson and husband, Steve all of Mexia; stepsons, Chris White and wife, Chrissy of Dew, Lee White of Dew, and Jason White of New Braunfels; granddaughters, Sara Crook Chiglo and husband, Jordan in Groesbeck, JoBeth Crook of Mexia, and Courtney Bess of Mexia; grandson, Garrett Ferguson and wife, Katie of Groesbeck; step grandchildren, Sydney McGowan, Lyndsie, Mason, and Max White; great grandchildren, Dr. Ty Chiglo and wife, Crystal of Groesbeck, Emily and Charly Chiglo, Jaci Henderson, Kennedy and Presley Reed, Sophia and Whitley Cortez, Madison and Rynlee Herrig, Parker and River Favors, Saylor, Oakley, and Kinsley Ferguson; step great grandchildren, Steele and Ruger McGowan; great-great grandson, Crue Chiglo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Randy Ayres officiating. Interment will follow in the Dew Cemetery. Ty Chiglo, Jordon Chiglo, Luke Leathers, Kenny Buyher, Chris White, and Bruce Wofford will serve as pallbearers. Garrett Ferguson will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
