Bobby Richardson

March 1, 1935 — September 9, 2021

Bobby Richardson

Bobby Russell Richardson was born March 1, 1935, and passed away peacefully on September 9, 2021 in Fort Worth, Texas at the age of 86.  Bobby and his wife, Yvonne Richardson, were high school sweethearts who were united in marriage for 56 years until Yvonne’s death on December 22, 2012.  The couple made a happy home in Mexia, Texas where they had many valued friends and family in the area.

Bobby was a talented athlete and track star at Mexia High School, holding the long jump record in the State for 17 years.  He was offered full scholarships at six colleges and ultimately went to SMU in Dallas.  Bobby only stayed one day at SMU before deciding to return to Mexia to marry his beloved Yvonne.    Bobby and Yvonne had two children, Bill David (Beau) Richardson of Austin, Texas, and Bobanne Richardson of Colleyville, Texas.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Russell David and Tessie Mae Richardson, his cherished wife, Yvonne and treasured son, Bill David Richardson.  Bobby is survived by daughter, Bobanne, daughter-in-law, Melanie Richardson, son-in-law, Scott Joslove, granddaughter, Riley Sue Richardson, grandson, Beau Dugan Richardson, adored nephew, Mike Gamble, and numerous cousins and longtime friends throughout the Mexia and Groesbeck area.

Bobby had several occupations during his life.  He owned the T&C Drive-In Grocery Store, and later served as Vice President of First Mexia Bank.  Bobby was known by his family as a fantastic dancer and performed the Jitter Bug in the Red Stockings Follies and other events along with his close friends.   We have fond memories of Bobby whistling throughout the day and being the beneficiary of his latest joke along with the playing of blues records by singer Jimmy Reed.  Bobby was known to be a loyal friend, avid golfer, amazing water skier, and a person who would quietly loan money to those in need.  He derived great pleasure from the simple things in life such as nearby deer, birdwatching and the companionship of his family pets.  In all situations, Bobby was fiercely his own person and remained that way to the end.

After he retired, Bobby found great joy in his service as a driver for Meals on Wheels and for Limestone County Senior Services and was grateful for the friendships he developed with many of his coworkers.

Graveside services will be held on Sunday, September 12, 2021, at 2:00 PM at the Mexia Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be:  Kenny Jones, Elmer Beene, Morris Dean Beaver, Roger Watson, Bobby Wilson, and Billy Don York.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Limestone County Senior Citizens Transit, 510 W. State St., Groesbeck, TX 76642.

"So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you."   John 16:22

"Be in my mind, my Father, throughout the day."

"Be in my mind, my Father, when I wake, and shine on me throughout the day today. Let every minute be a time in which I dwell with You. And let me not forget my hourly thanksgiving that You have remained with me, and always will be there to hear my call to You and answer me. As evening comes, let all my thoughts be still of You and of Your love. And let me sleep sure of my safety, certain of Your care, and happily aware that I am Your Son."  A Course In Miracles, Workbook F or Students, Lesson 232.

"Our death is our wedding with eternity."  Rumi
