Charles Adrian "C.A." Melcher 1923-2012 Mr. Charles Adrian "C.A." Melcher, 89, of Mexia, passed away December 8, 2012 at the Mexia LTC. He was born in Jewett, Texas on June 30, 1923 to W. E. "Eddy" and Angie Irene Liles Melcher. He grew up in the farming community of Farrar in Limestone County. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Richard Green of Mexia and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Patsy Copeland of Mexia and Ella Mae Franklin of Fort Worth. He was a member of Forest Glade Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 59 years, Hazel Copeland Melcher, daughter Erika Melcher Lynn, sisters Iris Belle McClelland and Ruby Gold Arnold, and his beloved granddaughter, Lauren Adrienne Green. Adrian attended Mexia High School with the Class of 1943. He was to graduated in 1943; however, his military duty called him. A veteran of World War II, Adrian served in the United States Army from January 1943 to March 1946 in the 489th Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion, with duty in Central Europe, attaining the rank of Technician 4th Grade. He was an Automotive Mechanic and Rifle Expert. His decorations and citations include an American Theater Campaign Ribbon, EAME Campaign Ribbon with a Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon, a Service Stripe and an Overseas Service Bar. He was Honorably Discharged in 1946. After the war, Adrian settled in Pasadena, Texas, where he honed his craft of being a master carpenter and furniture maker. He built many houses in Pasadena and moved to Mexia in the 60's to start his own business of building houses, cabinets, and fine furniture. He continued this until his retirement. Adrian will be remembered by family and friends as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. Many houses in Mexia and the surrounding areas still carry his trademark of excellence. He could take an old piece of wood and turn it into something beautiful. He was truly a gift from God. Adrian enjoyed fishing and taking trips with friends in his RV. He and Hazel enjoyed traveling with friends and with the Bi-Stone Travelers. He had traveled all over the United States. Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home will be in charge of the services. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 11, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, followed by graveside services at 11:30 AM with Reverend Aaron Lindsey officiating. Interment will be at the Mexia Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Forest Glade Baptist Church or Providence Hospice, Mexia.
