Charles Maurice Peery, 93, was born July 23, 1917 near Kosse in Limestone County, Texas. He was the fourth of seven children born to Charles and Ida Mae Sowders Peery. He married Shirley Frances Kennedy on September 9, 1939 in Houston. While living in Houston he worked for the Ford Motor Company and Houston Lighting and Power. He went to work for Halliburton in 1945. During his career with Halliburton he worked in Kilgore, Hawkins, Gainesville and Wichita Falls, Texas. He finished in Los Angeles, CA., after going to Australia to assist in the successful killing of the Atlantic Richfield well in the Timor Sea that had been burning for 2 and a half years. Retiring in 1973 after 29 years of service, he and Shirley moved to Thornton where he served as city fire marshall, city councilman and mayor throughout the years. He also owned and operated Peery's Auto Parts and Garage. He was a member of the Central Baptist Church and served as deacon for several years. Survivors include his wife Shirley of Thornton, Son, Ronnie Peery and wife Totsy of Boerne, Son, Mike and wife Lecil of Palestine, grandchildren, Zeb Peery and wife Amanda of Liberty Hill and Katherine Peery of Austin, Sister, Edyth of Pinellas Park, FL and brother, M.T. Peery of Point Blank, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brothers, Edgar, Blake, J.B. and Wayne Peery. Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7 pm Friday, March 11th at the Blair-Stubbs Chapel in Thornton. Funeral services will be 2 PM Saturday, March 12th at the Central Baptist in Thornton with the Rev. Tracy Sims officiating. Burial will follow in the Thornton cemetery. Pallbearers will be Zeb Peery, Neal Allison, Kaleb Allison, David Hughes, Ronnie Driskell and David Favors.
