After graduating from Mexia High School, Class of 1956, he received an Associate degree from 4 C Business College in Waco. He also served in the Army National Guard of Texas for six years. Charles worked for several companies before, and after, retirement. He was an Assistant Manager for A & P Grocery, a Salesman for Stroud & Stell Wholesale Grocery in Corsicana, retired from Chevron and then went to work in the Mexia State School Foster Grandparent program (a job he thoroughly enjoyed). Charles was friendly, loved people and made the most of enjoying life to the fullest. His love and devotion for his family was never ending. In addition to taking care of his parents, Charles was someone his family knew they could call on and, if any way possible, he would be there. Although he had no children, he loved his nieces and nephews as if they were his. He enjoyed family gatherings and family trips, especially, to Red River, New Mexico and Colorado. Being an outdoorsman, he loved fishing, hunting, gardening and raising cattle. It was easy to see that Charles loved the Lord by the way he lived his life. He was a longtime active member of the First Baptist Church and member of the Fisherman Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by his parents; and nephew, Danny M. Spillers.. Charles is survived by his brothers, Ronnie Pat Spillers and wife, Marguerite of Tyler, Danny Maurice Spillers and wife, Katy of Easterly and Bobby Roy Spillers of Tyler; sisters, Linda Bell of McGregor, Mary Spillers Hughes and husband, Ulmer of Old Union and Peggy Blanchard of Mexia; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 500 E. Carthage, Mexia, TX 76667.
