Chesley Earl Stephens, 77, passed away December 28, 2017 in Mexia, Texas. A celebration of life service will be held at 1:30 PM, Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the Temple Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Vestal and Rev. Ralph Richard officiating. Chesley was born January 23, 1940 in Velma, Oklahoma to Chester E. and Lora Mae Files Stephens. He married the love of his live, Carolyn Joyce Gordon, on January 5, 1960 in Velma, Oklahoma and they were blessed with a son, Charles Dean. It was very evident that loving and providing for his family and serving the Lord was most important to him. Chesley cherished his wife and son and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with them. In some of his spare time, he liked to rebuild old washing machine motors, watch the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and the Oklahoma Sooners, all while relaxing in his favorite attire, overalls. Chesley retired from Texas New Mexico Power Plant after many years of service as Maintenance Supervisor. He and his family moved to Mexia, less than a year ago. While still settling in, they were particularly excited about joining Temple Baptist Church, participating in the activities and enjoying their new church family. Chesley loved the Lord and was a faithful Christian. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Coy Dean Stephens. Chesley is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Joyce Stephens of Mexia; son, Charles Dean Stephens of Mexia; brothers, Dwayne Stephens and wife, Catherine and Larry Stephens and wife, Brenda; sisters, Judy Maxwell and Debbie Kelly and husband, Berlin; and a number of nieces and nephews.
