Claude Alden "Tennessee" Garber passed away to his heavenly home, December 10, 2010 at the age of 80 years. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 12, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ken Lane officiating. Interment will follow in the Forest Glade Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m., Saturday at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Tennessee was born October 26, 1930 in Fordtown, Tennessee to Samuel Vastine Garber Sr. and Lura Candace Christian Garber. He married Louise "Mama Lou" Hensley on October 5, 1950 and to this marriage six children were born, Alden V., Romelda A., Audrey "Sissie", Aubrey "Bubba", Andrea J. and Bradford R. Tennessee was a retired salesman and food service employee. He worked for Sinclair Oil Co., J. C. Penney Co., Berry-Barnett Grocery Co. for 22 years, Stanley's Grocery and Mexia State School. Tennessee was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Mexia where he served as a Deacon and Elder. He also served as a Medic in the U. S. Army and received an honorable discharge. He was also active in community service and served as a member of the Mexia Jaycees. Tennessee never met a stranger and was always "100%", no matter how bad the times were. Tennessee was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a friend to many. He always had a smile and was the same loving, happy man in good times and bad. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of almost 50 years, Louise; son, Bradford "Brad" R. Garber; brothers, Aubrey L. Garber and C. Doyle Garber; and sisters, Dorothy Garber Huntington and Kila Othnal Garber. Tennessee is survived by his sons, Alden V. Garber and wife, Sharon and Aubrey "Bubba" Garber; daughters, Romelda A. Moffett, Audrey "Sissie" Ingram and husband, Jimbo and Andrea J. Ingram and husband, Alan; daughter-in-law, Sherry Garber; grandchildren, Guyanne Mathis, Kera Nichols, Bryan Sterling, Chassity Smith, Bo and Josh Ingram, KyLea, Kreig and Kody Ingram, Jennifer and Toni Rorick, Lee Garber and Leigh Tomaski; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jimmy and Sammy Garber; and sisters, Rosie Gilder and Mozelle Garber. Pallbearers will be Bo Ingram, Josh Ingram, Kreig Ingram, Kody Ingram, Lee Garber, Kellan Mathis, Nick Nichols, Keith Smith and Bryan Sterling. The family would like to thank the special caregivers of the Windsor Healthcare Residence in Groesbeck, Tx. for their love and care of Mr. Tennessee. The family request that memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Mexia.
