Danny Lee Guthrie passed away Thursday, August 31, 2017 in Whitney, Texas at the age of 72. A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be 10:30 AM. Saturday, September 16, 2017 in the Plummer Cemetery with Mr. James Hawkins officiating. Danny was born April 26, 1945 in Mexia, Texas to Lester and Vera (Sterling) Guthrie. He was known for being a great father and a hardworking man. His gentleness in nature and a compassion for people served him well as a truck driver for many years. Danny also enjoyed motorcycles and spending time with family and close friends. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Among many of his accomplishments was serving as a heavy equipment mechanic and operator in Vietnam and also earning marksmanship badges with a sharpshooter rifle M-14 and expert rifle M-16. Danny is survived by his wife, Gayla Guthrie, daughters, Melissa White, Tina Collins, Stephanie Guthrie and Tiffany Guthrie; son, Christopher Guthrie; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings and cousins. He is reunited with his parents, Lester and Vera (Sterling) Guthrie; daughter Virginia Guthrie and son-in-law, Jason Collins. May you rest in peace forever more.
