Danny Frank Jackson left his temporary, earthly home on Sunday, August 20, 2017, in Bulverde, Texas where he has lived for the past 4 years. Danny was born in Waco, Texas on September 24, 1949, an only child, to Olva Spivey and James Houston Jackson. He is predeceased by his parents and is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Gayle, two children, Whitney Jackson of Austin, and Houston Jackson of Houston, as well as numerous cousins. He was raised on a farm near Prairie Hill, Texas, was a member of the Prairie Hill Baptist Church and attended Coolidge High School where he was Salutatorian. In high school he was lead singer and keyboard player in a band, The Tradewinds, which played in and around Waco. He graduated from The University of Texas in 1972 with a degree in Accounting. He obtained his CPA in 1976 and was a Life Member of the UT Ex-Students' Association. His career began in Houston with the Lester Witte & Co. CPA firm. He left public accounting in 1978 to begin working at Gullo-Haas Toyota as Business Manager, and then moved to Sam White Oldsmobile USA where he became Vice President and General Manager. He later formed a partnership that ultimately opened Baker-Jackson Nissan/Oldsmobile dealership in the Houston area. From the very beginning, Baker-Jackson earned Nissan Sales Leader designations for top performance. These awards programs allowed Danny and Gayle to travel extensively throughout the world. Danny retired in 1999 and became an active member of the West University community. In 2001, he was elected to the West University City Council, was a member of the West U Rotary Club, and was a big supporter of the Friends of West U Parks. In 1996, Danny was appointed by county commissioner Steve Radack to the Board of Managers for the Harris County Hospital District (Harris Health System) where he served for 14 years. Danny's effective role on the Board resulted in the eventual creation of specialty facilities expanding and enhancing patient access to primary and specialty care through the addition of community health centers. In recognition of his contribution to HCHD a new health facility on Fry Road was dedicated as the Danny Jackson Health Center in 2015. Additionally, in recognition of his service to the community, one of the first dog parks in the Houston area was dedicated in 2005 as The Danny Jackson Family Bark Park. During the mid to late 1970s, Danny relished his days playing first base on his beloved city league Century softball team. He found much joy in hunting, fishing, golfing with his buddies, and attending the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The Jackson family spent many happy days skiing and hiking in Vail, boating at Lake Conroe, and scuba diving in Belize. Danny's outgoing personality; huge smile and soft heart were loved and admired by all those who shared his life. He loved and adored his two children, Whitney and Houston. Danny was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in April 2008. He participated in activities at the Amazing Place in Houston for several years before the family moved to their home in Bulverde, Texas.
