Darrow B. Condon, 91, passed away December 23, 2024 in Mexia, Texas. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 27, 2024 in the Mexia Cemetery.
Darrow was born on October 13, 1933 to Earl and Lorene Condon in Des Moines, Iowa where he spent his early years. He took an interest early on in Boy Scouts earning his Eagle Scout award at the age of 15. After graduating from Des Moines Technical High School, he served in the Army for 2 years where he was stationed in Fort Meade, Maryland. After returning from the Army, Darrow was employed at Harten Lumber Company in Indianola, Iowa for 10 years.
In 1956, Darrow was united in marriage to Lucy Weeks, together they raised three children, Clinton, Scott, and Susan. Darrow was a loving father and a devoted Sunday School Teacher and Song Leader for many years.
In 1963, Darrow and Lucy moved to Corsicana, Texas where Darrow managed Carey Brothers Lumber Company and served as a director of the Corsicana Jaycees.
In 1966, Darrow and Lucy made the decision to move their family to Mexia where Darrow became manager of Mexia Building Supply, which he later bought and owned until 1982.
During his many years in Mexia, Darrow served at the President of the Mexia Jaycees, was a Member of the Citizens Advisory Committee, voted Man of the Year in1970, and served two terms as Mayor of Mexia.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Earl and Lorene Condon; brother, Rod Condon and sister-in-law, Jeanette Condon.
Left to cherish his memory include his wife of 68 years, Lucy Condon; sons, Clint (Missy) Condon and Scott (Lynda) Condon; and daughter, Susan Thompson (Ken). He is also survived by grandchildren, Jennifer (JD) Farst, Jaime (Blake) Smith, Ryan Condon, Courtney (Nolan) Russell, Cheyenne (Chris) Ellison, and Baileah Thompson; great grandchildren, Luke, Jake, and Eva Smith, Ryker, Lainie, Harper Farst, Wyatt and Carlea Condon, Everly and Callahan Russell and Jaxton, Jaits, Parker, and Cru Ellison.
In memory we see him just the same
As long as we live, we shall treasure his name
For deep in our hearts, he is living yet
We loved him too dearly to ever forget
Often in grievous heartache
Often a silent tear
But always a loving memory
Of the one we loved so dear.
