David Carol Stanford, of Mexia, passed away on July 25, 2024 in Waco, Texas at the age of 79.
David was born April 19, 1945 in Topeka, Kansas to Jack and Ruth (Emmerson) Stanford. He grew up in the country outside of Groesbeck and graduated from Groesbeck High School. David enlisted in the US Navy soon after graduation; he proudly served his country for 4 years. When he returned, he went to work for the telephone company in Groesbeck, now known as Brightspeed, retiring after 40 plus years of service.
David was easy going, quiet, and lived a simple life. Although he had a quiet demeaner, he would gladly talk, for an extended period of time, with anyone who initiated a conversation. He was also a jack of all trades, if there were repairs that needed to be made to his home or repairs to cars, mowers, etc., he made every attempt to fix them. He enjoyed watching the history channel and was especially interested in old ships and planes. He knew the locations, today, of the ships he served on during his time in the Navy as well as many others.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Ruth Stanford of Thelma; wife, Ann Stanford; and brother, John Stanford of Mexia.
David is survived by his brother, Robert Stanford and wife, Rona of Fort. Worth; nephew, Brian Stanford of Fort Worth; niece, Brandy Buccolo and husband, Justin of Austin; nephew, Shad Stanford and wife, Lindsey of Thornton; niece, Rae Lynn Bell and husband, Josh of Groesbeck; great nieces and nephews Avery and Remi Buccolo, Shelby and Lucy Stanford, Zachary and Blayke Russ and Hadley Bell.
Visitation with the family will be from 2-3 p.m. on Monday, July 29, 2024 at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. A graveside service with Military Honors will follow in the Mexia Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Bill Wright, Jr. officiating.
