Garland Dean Hancock, 71, of Mexia passed away January 11, 2012 at his home in Mexia. Funeral services will be 11AM, Saturday, January 14, 2012 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Fred Sain officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5-6:30 p.m. Friday at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Dean was born August 13, 1940 in Limestone County to Garland "Tunk" and Helen Taylor Hancock. He graduated from Mexia High School in 1958. Dean married Carolyn Liles on December 11, 1958 in Teague, Texas. He had been a local businessman since 1969 and he and Carolyn have owned the Snack Shack since 1973. He was a paint contractor for many years and a retiree of the Mexia ISD Maintenance and Transportation Department, where he worked for 10 years. Dean was an avid golfer and one who never met a stranger. He, especially, loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Johnny Joe Hancock, Sr. Dean is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carolyn of Mexia; sons, Terry Hancock and wife, Kim of Denton, Kenny Hancock and wife, Lesa and Mickey and wife, Tracy all of Mexia; grandchildren, Ryan Hancock of Ft. Worth, Ashley Hancock of Denton, Katie and Lindsey Hancock of Mexia, Jennifer Mulkey and husband, Chris of Denton, Josh Epperson of Denton, Taylor and Sydney Groveton of Mexia; one great-grandchild, Taelin Hancock of Mexia; and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Hudnall, Walter Van DeWeghe, Kenneth Norris, Harvey Williams, Mike Sunday, Jimmy "Smitty" Smith. His Fellow Golfers will serve as honorary pallbearers. Dean fought a long and courageous battle with his illness and will be greatly missed by his family and all that were dear to him. Memorials may be made to the Mexia Academic Sweater Fund: P.O.
