Donald Davis Carpenter, 80, of Thornton passed away September 5, 2012 in Groesbeck, Texas. Funeral services will be 11AM, Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel in Thornton with Chaplain Sarah Miller and Rev. Billy Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in the Thornton Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6-8 p.m., Friday, at Blair-Stubbs Chapel in Thornton. Donald was born June 7, 1932 in Thornton, Texas to Bill and Mabel Reynolds Carpenter. He was a lifelong resident of Thornton. He was a farmer and rancher and a retiree of GATX. Donald was a loving and caring man with a great sense of humor. He loved spending time with his family and his dog. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and was a big Dallas Cowboy fan. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Billy Gene Carpenter. Donald is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Melba of Thornton; son, Dale Carpenter and wife, Billie Jean of Thornton; daughter, Dava Beth Truett and husband, Jerry of Kosse; grandchildren, Lacie Gaines and husband, Nathan, Stacie White and husband, Murray, Brandon Truett and wife, Courtney and Brian Truett and wife, Stacy; great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Heather White, Colson, Corbin and Whitley Truett; step-children, Janice Smelley and husband, Jim and Kevin Barnes; step-grandchildren, Emily Barnes, Aaron Ray Smelley and wife, Laura and Amy Hartner and husband, Kent; step-great-grandchildren, Victoria and Abigail Smelley and Gavin Hartner; and numerous friends. Pallbearers will be Bill Neason, Jack Thompson, Bo Hall, Waydell Reynolds, David Reynolds and Rand Bates. Honorary pallbearer will be Larry Gray. Memorials may be made to Providence Hospice, Cancer research or Alzheimer's research.
