Donald Lee Moore, formerly of Mexia, passed away in Little Rock, Arkansas on September 22, 2022, at the age of 90. Don was born February 7, 1930 in Graford, Texas to William Lee and Etta Maude (Dixon) Moore.
Don had many interests in his life. He enjoyed football, was an avid Dallas Cowboy and Texas Longhorn fan. He liked watching old western movies, golfing, and playing dominoes with friends. His love for woodworking led him to build and hang birdhouses with Texas Parks & Recreation. His career started as a painter's helper for Southern Pacific Railroad and, as the years passed, he created the safety and specialized techniques which the company still uses today. Donald also served in the Army National Guard.
While living in Mexia, Don and Opal were active members of the First Baptist Church. Don was always a faithful participant in the Easter Pageant, in addition to many other activities. He served as a Deacon for most of his life. He was also a member, and past president, of the Mexia Lions Club.
After Opal’s death in 2005, Don moved to Arkansas to be near his son, Jack and daughter-in-law, Karen Moore. His memory will live forever in the hearts of the many friends and family that his life touched.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Lee and Etta Maud Moore; wife, Opal Faye (Denton) Moore; daughter-in-law, Karen Moore; and sisters, Marie Moore, Marilyn Moore and Margret Moore.
Don is survived by his son, Jack Moore; brother, Roy Moore; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, September 25, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. in the Mexia City Cemetery with Reverend Marcus Sheffield officiating.
