Doris was born July 16, 1929 in Lost Prairie, Texas to Floyd Ruben and Bertha (Shugart) Vest. She married R. D. Carter on February 1, 1946 and they were blessed with two children, Robert Jr. and Regina. Her main goal in life was to love and take care of her family, a task that she fulfilled without any doubt.
Doris enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family, especially around the holidays. Spoiling all her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren was her favorite pastime. She was a good cook. According to her family, her specialties were chocolate and sweet potato pies and a “huge” pan of the best dressing, ever.
Doris also enjoyed card and domino games, her favorites were 42, phase 10, and canasta. She was blessed with many things during her 95 years of life, one being her memory. She never forgot the birthdays of family and friends. She will truly be missed but she left a wonderful legacy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Bertha Vest; her husband of 63 years, R. D. Carter; son, Robert D. Carter, Jr.; and siblings, Nelda Grabbs, Betty Lou Vest, and Junior Ray Vest.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Regina Rae Turner and husband, Jerry; grandchildren, Robert Dalton Carter, III and wife Michelle, Steven Hogan and wife, Ellen, Stacey Hogan and wife, Jennifer, Jay Turner and wife, Sabra; nine great grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Sandra Carter; and sister-in-law, Barbara Vest.
The family would like to acknowledge and say thank you to Terri Kelm and the Interim hospice team for their special care of Doris.
