Mrs. Dorothy Marie Freeman passed from this earth, Monday, March 23, 2009, at her home in Mexia with her daughters by her side. She was 81 years of age. Mrs. Freeman was a member of the Teague Church of Christ and very committed to Eastern European Missions, an organization supplying Bibles to school children in Russia. Mrs. Freeman was born March 19, 1928, in Heath, Texas, to Arthur Lee and Marie Moore Shortnacy. She was the oldest of six children. She married Joseph Herman Freeman, December 23, 1944 and was blessed in that marriage for 52 years. In 1982, she moved with her beloved husband from Garland, Texas to a farm outside of Teague where they lived until his death in 1996. Two years ago, Mrs. Freeman moved to Mexia where she enjoyed the Easter Pageants, Christmas Dinner Theaters, Habitat Dinners, her yard, neighbors and friends. Mrs. Freeman is survived by her daughters, Judy Jacobsen of Mexia and Janie Hodges and husband, Mike of Fredericksburg; sisters, JoAnn McClain and husband, Wayne of Dallas and Tommie Nagy and husband, Steve of Austin; grandchildren, Julie M. Tucker of Mexia, Ken and Tina Tucker of Green Bay Wisconsin, Melissa Pollard of Flower Mound, Kellie Hodges of Austin and Paul Hodges of Fredericksburg; great-grandchildren, Hollyann Tucker, Kasey and Courtney Pollard, Miranda Hodges and Evan Miranda. Mrs. Freeman was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph Herman Freeman; brothers, Freddie Shortnacy, William Frank Shortnacy and Harold L. Shortnacy. Viewing will be Wednesday, March 25th from 6 PM until 8 PM at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 26, 2009 at 2 PM at the Northcrest Church of Christ in Mexia with Mr. Benjamin Neeley and Mr. Dale Mitchell officiating. Interment will be in the Shanks Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Waylon Levels, Butch Newhouse, Nick Nichols, Paul Hodges, Paul Pryor and Randy DeVillier. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Hodges, Buck Freeman, Frank DeVillier, Wayne McClain and Steve Nagy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Providence Hospice, 107 E. Commerce, Mexia, Texas 76667 and/or Eastern European Missions.
