Tehuacana native, Edward Bounds Trotter, 92, died Tuesday, March 17. Trotter was born October 11, 1916 to Edward Clayton and Lula Jane Bounds Trotter. He spent most of his life in Tehuacana, and helped shape the community over the years. After receiving his Associates Degree in 1935 from Westminster College, Edward went on to receive a Bachelors degree from North Texas Teachers College in 1937. He returned to Tehuacana, and it was there in the halls of Westminster College that Edward would follow the sound of beautiful music coming from one of the classrooms to the woman that would become his bride, Marjorie Olivia Jones, who preceded him in death in 1992. Edward and Marjorie married in 1938, and had four children, Marjorie Anne (who died in 2007), Kenneth Edward, Judy Carolyn, and James Donald. In Tehuacana, Edward supported his growing family by entering the cattle business. Indeed, he was one of the last true cowboys, riding horses and working cattle until he physically was unable to do so. His Bar T brand has been recognized as one of the early brands to be registered in Texas. A lifelong Methodist, Edward and his family were committed to the United Methodist Church of Tehuacana, where he sang in the choir while Marjorie played the organ and the piano. Edward valued family, and some of his best times were spent with grandchildren in the summers and at holidays, watching his family grow. As a rancher and civic leader, Edward served on both the city council and the cemetery association of Tehuacana, and served multiple terms as the community's mayor. He was a long-time member of the Texas and Southwest Cattle Raisers Association and the Texas Farm Bureau. Edward is survived by a sister, Jeffaline Stuver of Tehuacana, three of his four children: son and daughter-in-law Ken and Sandra Trotter of Tomball, daughter and son-in-law Judy and Maurice Fife of Katy, son and daughter-in-law James and Martha Trotter of Bryan, grandsons Don Edd Green, Jon Green, and David Trotter, granddaughters Angela Green Clendenin, Kimberly Trotter Selzman, Camille Trotter Zachmeier, Jennifer Trotter Hafner, Anita Fife Gumbert, and Laci Trotter, in addition to 17 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2 PM Sunday, March 22, 2009 at the Tehuacana Methodist Church. Rev. Michael Redmond will officiate and the interment will follow in the Tehuacana cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
