Effie Elizabeth Tilghman passed away February 19, 2020 at her home in Van Alstyne, Texas at the age of 94. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 22, 2020 in the Mexia Cemetery with Rev. Justin Colquette officiating.
Effie was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on November 12, 1925 to O. F. and Florence Bell Howard Fisher. She was a graduate of Mexia High School. Effie married Charles Ray Tilghman, Sr. and they were the proud parents of two sons, Charles, Jr. and Michael. She was secretary of Greenbrier Limited in Dallas, prior to retiring after 15 years of service.
Effie enjoyed a lifelong hobby of collecting Rooster/Chicken memorabilia. She enjoyed playing bingo with friends and, prior to Charles's death, they enjoyed traveling and went on several cruises together. She loved her forever companions, her dogs, China and Gucci.
She was preceded in death by her parents, O. F. and Florence Fisher; son, Michael Shane Tilghman; sister, Geraldine Hall; brothers, Harold, Corvil and O. F. Fisher, Jr.
Effie is survived by her loving son, Charles R. Tilghman, Jr. and wife, Diane of Van Alstyne; grandson, Cody Shane Tilghman; and several nieces and nephews.
