Emmett Earl Speer, of Point Enterprise, passed away January 17, 2024 in Waco, Texas at the age of 86. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m., Sunday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 22, 2024 at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home with Reverend Marcus Sheffield officiating. Interment will follow, with Military Honors, in the Point Enterprise Cemetery. Keith Price, Bud Shamblin, Don Brock, Alvis Minster, Craig Nemons, and Ray Jones will serve as pallbearers.
Emmett was born March 2, 1937 in Mexia, Texas to John Earl and Mary Alice (Scarbrough) Speer. He served his country in the US Navy with four years of active duty and two years in the reserves. Emmett owned and operated a service station in Houston for several years, worked as an Insurance Agent, and drove a Mexia school bus for 14 years.
Emmett’s love for the Lord and his family was very evident. He and Judy were the proud parents of two children, four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. There was nothing he enjoyed more than spending time with his family. He was always very active in church; he served as a deacon in the Point Enterprise Baptist Church for many years and was presently a member of the First Baptist Church where he also served as a deacon.
Emmett had an outgoing personality, and he wasn’t one to be idle. He enjoyed gardening, driving his tractor, and riding the golf cart picking up debris. Emmett was also willing to help anyway possible with matters pertaining to the Point Enterprise Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Speer; and brother, Johnny Speer.
Emmett is survived by his wife, Judy Speer of Point Enterprise; son, Richard Earl Speer and wife, Kelly of Spring, TX; daughter, Vicky Lynn Golden and husband, Shaun of Nokomis, FL; grandchildren, Matthew Ryan Speer, and Isaac, Kevin, and Allison Golden; great granddaughters, Camey and Spencer Speer; and one great grandson, Luca Golden.
