Eugene Patrick Donovan, Jr., passed away on April 30, 2018 at his home in Mexia at the age of 94. Graveside services with Military Honors will be 3:00 p.m., Friday, May 4, 2018 at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock, Texas with Rev. Joel McMahon officiating. Eugene was born January 4, 1924 in Galveston, Texas to Eugene Patrick, Sr. and Marie Donovan. He graduated from Ball High School in Galveston. On April 26, 1943, he enlisted in the US Army and went through boot camp at Fort Hood. Eugene married his sweetheart, Dorothy Doris Davis, on June 26, 1943 in Temple, Texas. After being discharged from the Army, he went to work for Amoco where he retired, in 1984, after 37 years of service. Galveston was Eugene's home for his entire life until "Ike" hit Galveston. He then relocated to Mexia to live with his daughter. He was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Galveston. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene & Marie Donovan; his loving wife of 65 years, Dorothy Donovan; three sisters, Dorothy Hagman, Leona Giusti and Juanita Boyd; and two brothers, James and Edwin Donovan. Eugene is survived by his daughter, Georgia Sue Callies; sons, Eugene P. Donovan, III and wife, Jan and John Lyle Scott Donovan; brother-in-law, Marvin B. Davis; grandchildren, Darci Ann Graves and husband, Charlie, Robert F. Callies and wife, Jackie, Tricia Rae Yeathermon and husband, Steve, Rose Davis Donovan, Vanessa Puentes, John Lyle Scott Donovan, Jr., David Donovan, Michael Donovan and Cindy Stowe; 19 great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
