Eugene Alonzo "Gene" Trumble, 85, passed away July 20, 2015 at his home near Mexia. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 25, 2015 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Marcus Sheffield officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Gene was born July 31, 1929 in Hackensack, New Jersey to Alonzo Eugene Trumble and Martha Washington Ackerson Trumble. After graduating from Hackensack High School, he joined the Marine Corp. After serving as a Staff Sergeant in the Korean War, he returned home for only a short time. He was then drafted into the Army and sent to Germany. Gene entered college after proudly completing his service for his country. In 1962, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in computer engineering from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. He worked 40 years as a computer programmer in New Mexico and Texas, prior to retirement. After retiring, his hobbies consisted of N scale miniature trains, re-upholstering furniture, reading, painting, drawing, building things for the family, John Wayne westerns and history. He loved living in the country, riding his tractor and entertaining. Gene's love for God and his family was exemplified in the way he lived his life. He was affectionately known as Gene, Dad and, proudly, PaPaw. He was dearly loved by his entire family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; there was no one greater than their PaPaw. Gene was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mexia. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dorothy Trumble Prince. Gene is survived by his wife, Jo Nell Trumble of Mexia; children, Tarie Trumble Johnson and husband, Steve Stouffe of Lewisville, Sandi Trumble Ray and husband, Mike of Arlington, Steve Hill and wife, Jill of Arlington, Deborah Hill Walker and husband, Nigel of Austin and Joanna Hill Willard and husband, Wesley of Austin; grandchildren, Michelle Walker of Dallas, Tanner Hill of Arlington, Scott Walker of Austin, Jacob Willard of Fort Collins, CO, Hannah Willard of Austin, Josh and Kaylah Key of Rockwall, Shane and Valerie Johnson of Quinlan, Stephanie and Garrett Stouffe and Kyle and Shane Ray; great-grandchildren, Ava and Abi Key and Dixie Johnson; sister, Lois Trumble Olsen of Long Branch, NJ; and numerous other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be Nigel Walker, Wesley Willard, Tanner Hill, Josh Key, Shane Johnson and Jacob Willard. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Talley, Walter Van DeWeghe, Jerry Don Chilcoat, Holloway Martin, Bill Lowry, Gene Barlow, Larry Brown and Jesse Edwards. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 500 E. Carthage, Mexia, TX 76667.
