Evan Dean Lemon, 87, of Waxahachie, TX, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on July 1, 2024.
Evan was born in Tulsa, OK, on December 4, 1936. He was the second of 8 children born to Ed and Edith Lemon. After graduating high school, Evan attended college in Tulsa, where he was an active player on the football team. In 1956, Evan married his sweetheart, Calla Sue.
Evan and Calla Sue moved to LaPorte, TX, where they gave birth to their 2 beautiful daughters, Deana and Rebecca (Becky). In LaPorte, Evan worked for DuPont for 26 years. Afterward, the family moved to Mexia, TX, and Evan worked at Lide Vessels until his retirement.
Evan loved working with his hands and would always find something to tinker with (or tear apart) in his workshop. He was known for the grandfather clocks he loved to make and his various woodworking projects. When he wasn't in the shop or working in the yard, you could catch Evan out by the pond, always trying to catch a bigger fish than the one before. But even more important than the record catch was Evan's relationship with God. He was a dedicated Christian who attended the Church of Christ and loved the Lord wholly. He did his best to live by God's word and to provide an example of a Godly man to anyone whose life he touched.
Evan is survived by his children, Deana Lide (Bobby Lide) and Becky Meyer; 5 grandchildren, Nikki Terry (Michael Terry), Jared Lide, Dustin Meyer (Leah Porter), Jennifer Meyer, and Dylan Meyer (Danielle Schakel); 2 great-grandchildren, Nicholas Terry and Micah Terry; and siblings, Linda Peterson and Jerry Lemon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Edith Lemon; siblings Georgia Lemon, Marie Clark, Sharna Taylor, Barbara Kuehl, and Buddy Lemon; and his loving wife of 67 years, Calla Sue.
The family would like to thank the staff at Buffalo Creek Assisted Living and Memory.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 3,2024 at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home with Bobby Lide and Nikki Terry officiating; visitation with the family will be prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Cotton Gin Cemetery. Jared Lide, Billy Lide, Bobby Lide, Larry Wilson, Charles Raschke, and Ken Alpert will serve as pallbearers.
