Flura Erskine

Flura Delle Teer Erskine passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on November 7, 2014, in Longview, Texas after 97 fulfilling years of life. Born on June 7, 1917, in Freestone County, Texas, to James Birch and Maude Edna Teer, she was the youngest of 14 children. She descended from a distinguished lineage of patriots in the American Revolution as well as Stephen F. Austin's original 300 settlers who arrived in Texas in the 1820's. She was married in 1940 to Blake Erskine of Tehuacana, Texas, where they made their home for 43 years. They were blessed with two children: Blake Charles and Kathy Delle. Mrs. Erskine retired from the Mexia State School after many years of faithful service. She was a talented cook, homemaker and disciplined hard worker who dearly loved her family and friends. She was also a master 42 player. Her beloved husband preceded her in death in 1983. Mrs. Erskine is survived by her children and their spouses: Blake and Toni Erskine, and Kathy and Larry Colvin. Her grandchildren were also precious to her: Blake C. Erskine, Jr. and his wife Tammy, Daphne Scott and her husband Blake, and Katherine Erskine. She was a loving great-grandmother to Sophia and Olivia Erskine, and Wyatt, Georgia and Mary Blake Scott. A longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Tehuacana, her funeral services will be held there on Tuesday, November 11 at 2:00pm with burial following at Tehuacana Cemetery. Prior to the service, the family will welcome friends for lunch and visitation at Noon. Pallbearers will be Blake Scott, Phil Luker, Major John Luker, Dan Stroup, Richard Spears and Mark McMahon. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the ICU staff at Longview Regional Medical Center for their professional and loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Laras House (Limestone Animal Rescue and Adoption Shelter) at P.O. Box 190, Mexia, Texas, 76667.
