Frances Marie Shamblin

Mrs.  Frances Marie Shamblin, 89, of Coppell, formerly of Mexia passed away, Wednesday, October 12, 2022.

Frances was born August 15, 1933 in Mexia to Cecil J. and Myrtie Mae Page Black.  She grew up and attended schools in Mexia.   She worked at the Cotton Mill and Varo in Mexia in her younger days and later worked as an X-Ray technician for the Mexia State School.  Frances married Jack Shamblin on October 22, 1948, and they spent many happy years together prior to his death in 2001.

Frances was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Mexia until she moved to Cleburne to be near her sister, Helen.  At the time of her death, she was a member of the North Cleburne Baptist Church, which she continued to support.

She enjoyed sewing and in her later years made several beautiful quilts.  Frances was known for her chocolate and pecan pies, and at Christmas time, she would make and give away her Texas Trash.  She also enjoyed watching the Texas Rangers baseball on TV.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Jack and by sisters, Estelle Romain, Lorene Pluto, Helen Sams Pierce and Faye New, Brothers, Claudie ‘Skeet’ Black, Billy Ray Black, J.T. Black and Wilburne Black.

She is survived by her daughter, Joann Hamill Harral of Coppell, grandson, Todd Hamill and wife, Angela of Arlington, TX., great grandchildren, Tiffany Hamill and husband, Neils of Copenhagen, Denmark and Jeremy Hamill and fiancé, Shayarah Robertson of Midiothian.  She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. 

Graveside funeral services will be Saturday, October 15, 2022, at 1 PM in the Mexia cemetery, with her nephew, Jerry Don Black officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital- 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
