Gary Owen

Gary Wayne Owen, 54, of Thornton passed away February 13, 2013 at his home in Thornton. Funeral services will be 2PM, Sunday, February 17, 2013 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel in Mexia with Dr. Larry Hughes and Rev. Bill Wright, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Thornton Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m., Saturday at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home in Mexia. Gary was born July 14, 1958 in Mexia, Texas to Bobby Owen and Barbara Hearon Owen. He graduated from Mexia High School in 1976. He married Pat Jones on January 12, 1979 in Groesbeck, Texas. During his teenage years, he worked with his Dad in the family business, the Corner Feed Store, and for Dr. Ric Bennett. Gary later became a truck driver and mechanic. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed camping, trail rides, raising show animals and tinkering with motors. Gary was a very devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Owen; grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Joe Mack Hearon and Mr. & Mrs. G. G. Owen. Gary is survived by his wife, Pat Owen of Thornton; children, Barbara Carter and husband, Michael of Thornton, Jeremiah Owen and wife, Autumn of Groesbeck and Sheri Owen-Rancher and husband, Jason of Conroe; grandchildren, Peyton and Paige Carter, Joseph Favors, Rustyn and Emmersyn Owen, Addyson, Anthony, and Alizabeth Rancher; mother, Barbara Owen; brothers, Terry and Barry Owen of Mexia; sisters and brothers-in-laws, Freida and Skippy Howard, Rhonda and Fred Rowe, Fran and Rickey Dick, John and Lisa Jones, Toprekia and Donald Roe, Marvin Jones and wife, Emily and Michael Howard. Pallbearers will be Jackie McKinley, Wayne Owen, Dudley Owen, Chad Hendley, Charles Walpole and Phillip Kramer. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Ric Bennett, Joe Neason, Sr., Bill Neason, Mike Sutton, Ray Fleet, Pete Lee and Gary McKinley.
