Melvin Eugene "Gene" Yarbrough, 81, longtime Mexia Pharmacist, passed away July 4, 2015 in Mexia. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 7, 2015 in the Mexia Cemetery with Rev. Marcus Sheffield officiating. Gene was born October 21, 1933 in Fallon, Texas to Melvin and Margaret Fife Yarbrough. He lived in the Mexia area most of his life and was a graduate of Mexia High School. Gene furthered his education at the University of Texas where he received his Master's Degree. He, also, proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Era. Gene operated Gene's Pharmacy in Mexia for many years, prior to retirement. He was considered by his many customers to be, not only a Pharmacist, but their friend. He was always willing to go the extra mile to assist his customers/friends with their needs. Although Gene was a good friend to many, he loved and cherished his family; he was a devoted son, husband, brother and uncle. Gene's family and work were his life. He didn't have any particular hobbies, however, he was known to be a diehard fan of the University of Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Linda Yarbrough; an infant child; and brother, Gerald Yarbrough. Gene is survived by his nephew, Mike Yarbrough and wife, Emily of Houston; sister-in-law, Shirley Yarbrough of Mexia; special nieces, Karen Harrison and husband, Walt and daughter, Lucy Kate and Kristina Brunson and husband, Jason and daughter, Emma; and numerous friends.
