George Harlan Gardner

George Harlan Gardner passed away April 7, 2024 in Amarillo, Texas.  Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 10, 2024 in the Prairie Grove Cemetery.

George was born November 30, 1942 in Houston, Texas to George Joseph and Edith Harlan (Robinson) Gardner.  He received a Bachelor’s in Marketing from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.  In 1975, he bought his father’s business, Gardner’s Fine Shoes for Men, and sold it in 1989.  George then went to work for the State of Texas as a Substance Abuse Counselor, where he retired after many years of service.  Evidently, retirement wasn’t for him as he worked for many more years as a substitute teacher for the Pampa ISD.

George wanted to serve his country in the US Air Force; he signed up but due to injuries he sustained in a serious automobile accident, years earlier, was unable to serve.

George didn't have any particular hobbies, however, he enjoyed traveling and taking road trips.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wanda Kay Gardner; and stepdaughter, Tammy Petty.

George is survived by his son, Charles Garner; granddaughter, Alexandra Persaud, and great grandson, Maverick Persaud.

He is also survived by his stepsons, Mike Abbott and Greg Abbott and wife, Sue; and stepdaughter, Tina Tischer.
