Goldia Elisabeth Liles entered her heavenly home on January 10, 2025 at the age of 85. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 14, 2025 in the Calvary Baptist Church with Reverend Shane Norcross, (grandson) Pastor Clayton Liles, and Pastor Billy Edwards will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery. Jeremy Liles, Bobby Liles, Kelly Liles, Jacob Boyd, and Colt Cadell will serve as pallbearers.
Goldia was born May 20, 1939 in Big Spring, Texas to Leonard Winfield and Mattie Opal Rebecca (Brashears) Skiles. She has been a resident of Mexia for most of her life; she graduated from Mexia High School, Class of 1957. Continuing her education, Goldia received her Master’s degree from Baylor. She retired from the Texas Education Agency after many years of service.
Goldia married Bobby Jack Liles on September 7,1957 and they were blessed with two children, Angela Michelle and William “Bill” Leonard. They loved their family, and it was most important that they raise them in a Christian home.
Goldia’s love for children was very evident as her world revolved around, not only her family but many others. She loved her children, and her love just grew stronger as she became a grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She cherished each, and every one of them. Goldia was a longtime active member of the Calvary Baptist Church where she was the Children’s Education Coordinator and the Sunday school nursery teacher. She was also a schoolteacher. Goldia, no doubt, touched the lives of many children.
When time allowed, Goldia enjoyed all types of needle work, including crocheting, knitting, and quilting as well as playing Bridge and Canasta. She had an outgoing personality and never met a stranger.
Goldia is survived by her husband of 67 years, Bobby Jack Liles; son, Bill Liles and wife, Tina of Waco; grandchildren, William Clayton Liles and Holly, Jeremy Len Liles and Heather, Bobby Allan Liles and Bailey, Kelly Wayne Liles and Leia, Elizabeth (Scooter) Cadell and Colt, and Samantha Sullivan and Mikey; 18 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Mattie Skiles; daughter, Angela Hibbard; and grandchildren, Christopher Wayland Hibbard and Machelle Hibbard.
