Hazel Marie LeBlanc Owen, 88, formerly of Mexia passed away July 10, 2012 in Corsicana. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, July 12th at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Interment will be on Saturday, July 14th at Our Lady Of The Lake Cemetery in Delcambre, Louisiana. Hazel was born November 15, 1923 in Erath, Louisiana to John Joseph and Lydia Miguez LeBlanc. Prior to moving to Corsicana five years ago, she had lived in Mexia for over 50 years. Hazel married William Roy "Bill" Owen on September 26, 1943 in New Orleans, Louisiana. For fifty eight years, Hazel treasured the special friendship of Sue Thiele, now of Mexia, as they traveled the state of Texas while their husbands built highways. She devoted her life to loving and caring for her family. She was also, an avid and ruthless canasta player which earned her the title of reigning "Canasta Queen" in her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Roy "Bill" Owen; grandson, Brad William Owen; and siblings, Mavely LeCompte, Anna Belle Waugespack and Mervin LeBlanc. Hazel is survived by one sister, Mary Etta Balsamo; four children, Joanie Teel and husband, Lain of Corsicana, Harry Rex Owen and wife, Nancy of Ft. Worth, John Gordon Owen III and wife, Rorry of Payne Springs and Kathleen Caldwell and husband, Doyal of Huntsville; grandchildren, Steven Teel, Amy Teel, John Owen IV, Stacy Kresge, John Doyal Caldwell; and great-grandchildren, Amanda Teel, Jordan Teel, Katie Kresge, Christopher Kresge, Cole Caldwell and Seth Caldwell. Pallbearers will be Lain Teel, Doyal Caldwell, Steven Teel, Amy Teel, John Owen IV, Stacy Kresge, John Caldwell and Pat Guidry. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Hand in Hand Hospice and caregivers, Joanna Mayo, Detra Carroll and Lisa Bradley for their outstanding loving care of their Mother during her final days.
