" A mother's love lives within the hearts of her children forever." On the morning of June 28, 2014, God called away the sweet spirit of Hazel Naomi Simmons to her heavenly home. Hazel was born May 23, 1920 in Pinewood, Minnesota to Clarence E. and Estella Hurst Bacon; the third of seven children. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She always put others ahead of herself. She loved her Lord and Savior with all her heart and lived her life as a faithful servant. Hazel married Robert (Bob) Simmons in August of 1943. They raised four children in a loving home filled with love, giving those who knew them an example of a loving marriage and Godly parents. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob; son, Carey; and her siblings. Hazel is survived by son, Binky Simmons and wife, Dianne of Jewett, TX; daughter, Carol Caldwell and husband, Joe of Forney, TX; daughter-in-law, Dorcas Simmons of McKinney, TX; and son, David Simmons and wife, Donna of Mesquite, TX. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Chris Henson and wife, Lydia of Dallas, TX, Scott Simmons and wife, Tracy, of Buckeye, AZ, Denna Shives and husband, Jimmey of Royse City, TX, Priscilla Valentine and husband, Gaylon of Fort Worth, TX, Jennifer Caldwell of TX, Darius Coleman of McKinney, TX, Dawn Dickinson of Port Aransas, TX and Carresa Simmons Lugod of the Philipines; great-grandchildren, Branndon Norwood, Seth Shives, Deanna Shives, Zachary Simmons, Amanda Simmons, Chance Caldwell, Dante Herndon, Corey Caldwell, Dylan Dickinson, Toa Simmons-Lugod and Banyan Simmons-Lugod; and great-great-grandchildren, Katie Caldwell and Brayden Dickinson. A viewing and visitation with the family will be held at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2014. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 3, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Mexia with Rev. Marcus Sheffield and Rev. Jack Ballard officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery.
