Herman O'Niel "Niel" Padgett, Jr.

Herman O'Niel "Niel" Padgett, Jr. passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2025, in Corsicana, Texas. He was born August 23, 1945, in Mexia, Texas to Herman and Alma (Gamble) Padgett.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 43 years, Shirley Kay Padgett; and great grandson Kade.

Survivors are wife Shirl-Ann; his children, Karen Padgett Smith of Mexia, Texas, Herman O'Niel "Trey" Padgett, III (Sylvana) of Wortham, Texas, and Leslie Padgett Burkhart (Ray) of Springtown; grandchildren, Adam Padgett, Will Padgett (Jessica), Meagan Staton (Cody), Jordan Padgett (Kristen), McKenzie Young, Miranda & Macy Sizemore; nine great grandchildren with another on the way; sisters, Suzy Richardson (James Franklin) and Diana McDonald (Bubba); also many cousins, nieces & nephews; and stepchildren, Chris Hart (Melody) & Jenna Lynd (Chad) & families.

Niel was quite a character, loved talking about the past and could remember most every play he made on the baseball and football field.  He could remember back when he was in diapers and not the disposable ones!  Niel loved to tell folks when they ask him how he was, his response being "if I was any better you couldn't stand me" or "have a great day and a better tomorrow".  He may have been on the ornery side, but he loved with his whole heart and always said I love you when you left or hung up on a phone call. 

Niel graduated from Mexia High School in 1964.  He was a hard worker and a skilled welder.  Some of his jobs included Donie Chair Factory, Mipco, and LTV, prior to retiring from the Mexia State School Maintenance Department.

A memorial service will be Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home with Mr. Joe Lucas officiating.  Visitation with the family will be prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m.
