Ima Marie Dabney, longtime resident of Mexia, passed away April 25, 2019 at the age of 93. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 6, 2019 at the Prairie Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Cundieff officiating.
Ima was born June 21, 1925 in Prairie Hill, Texas to Charles Newton and Lela Phillips Isham. She married her loving husband, Ernest Dabney in 1939 and they were blessed with two children, Glynn and Martha. Being raised on a farm, she learned the meaning of hard work at an early age, a trait she would continue throughout her life. Ima retired from the Mexia State School after 30 years of service as a Dorm Supervisor. She and Ernest also owned and operated a store on Highway 171 and FM 2838 in Mexia for several years.
Ima was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed gardening, raising and canning vegetables, listening to music and loved pampering her dogs/companions, Skipper and Wishbone. She was very independent, never expecting anything from anyone and willing to express her opinion on any matter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest Dabney; son, Glynn Dabney; infant daughter, Martha; brothers, Emory, Weldon, C.N. and Joe Isham
Ima is survived by two nephews, James Isham and wife, Kathy of Lorena and Terry Isham; sister-in-law, Scottie Isham; companions, Skipper and Wishbone; and a number of great nieces and nephews.
