Mrs. Irene Speights, 84, of Mexia passed away Friday, June 25, 2010 in Waco. Funeral services will be 2 PM Monday, June 28, 2010 at the Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home Chapel in Mexia with Reverend Thomas Dwayne Roberson and Reverend O.C. Bates officiating. Burial will follow in the Mexia cemetery. Pallbearers will be Loyal Dean Thompson, Roy Cowan, Cyril Farris, Joseph Jobe, Ronnie Barkouskie and Trey Schultz. Honorary Pallbearers will be Winford Collins, Tanner Miller, Tiffany Schultz, Darrell Jobe and Truman Hamby. Visitation with the family will be Sunday evening from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Mrs. Speights was born August 27, 1925 in Delia, Texas to Calvin and Myrtle (Jones) Thompson. She graduated from Prairie Hill High School and was later employed at the Mexia State School for over 17 years as a Dorm Charge. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Mexia. Mrs. Speights was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Jerry Speights and by her brother, Loyal Thompson. She is survived by her daughter, Janice Lee and husband Eddie of Robinson, Niece, Glenda Cowan and husband Roy of Waco, Daughter-in-law, Debra Farris and husband Cyril of Mexia, Judy Hamby and husband Truman of Oklahoma, Grandson, Tracy Speights and wife Connie, Great Grandsons, Corey, Chris, Justin and Ryan, Nephew, Loyal Dean Thompson of Bellmead, Sisters-in-law, Ilene Thompson of Bellmead, June Foster of Pasadena and Lois Gallery and husband Robert of Bryan. She is further survived by extended family members, Terry, Tammy, Tanner and Raven Miller of Oklahoma, Tiffany Schultz of Oklahoma and Trey Schultz of Corsicana. The family would like to thank Linda Halamik, Mendy DeHart and Hillcrest Hospice and Mary "Jones" Russell and the staff of the Crestview Healthcare.
