Visitation with the family will be 5-7 PM, Tuesday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Jack was born April 18, 1931 in Limestone County, Texas to Burley Roy and Mary Elizabeth Douglas Higgins. He served his country as a member of the National Guards. He retired from Southern Pacific Railroad after completing 41 years in the Track Maintenance Department. Jack married his best friend and loving wife of 65 years, Faye Thompson, on June 18, 1952 in Mexia, Texas; a marriage that was best described as "A Party Everyday". Although they had no children, they were blessed with a niece, Donna Arnold and two nephews, Bobby and Billy Lauderdale that were like their own. Jack said "he worked for the railroad, all those years, so he could have a place to play when he retired", and he did. After living in the Mexia area for most of his life, 10 years ago, he and Faye moved to the country; they built a home in Donie. He enjoyed nothing more than getting on his tractor and working the land. Jack was a faithful servant of the Lord and a member of the First Baptist Church in Donie. He was very outgoing, had a great sense of humor and a willingness to help those in need. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, R. B. and James Higgins; and sisters, Ruby McMinn, Mildred Smith, Mary Kate Baker, Norma Jean Mitchell and Patricia Lauderdale. Jack is survived by his loving wife, Faye Higgins of Donie; niece (like a daughter), Donna Arnold and husband, Ron of Donie and their sons, Logan Arnold of Donie and Ben Taylor and wife, Lindsey and daughter, Lexi of Pt. Enterprise; nephews (like sons), Billy Lauderdale and wife, Terri of Round Rock and their children and Bobby Lauderdale of Robinson and children; and many other nieces and nephews.
