Reverend James Weldon Duke, 61, of Mexia passed away Saturday, April 8, 2017 at his residence. James was born December 28, 1955 in Lufkin to John Wesley and Lenna Bell Witcher Duke. He grew up and went through school in Lufkin. After high school he attended Goodyear Technical School to become a mechanic; however, James could not deny a calling to the ministry and attended Southwestern Baptist Seminary. James spent the rest of his career as a minister and missionary with the International Baptist Convention and it was evident that his love and passion was serving the Lord and bringing people to Christ. Many years of his missionary work was in Bulgaria, helping and ministering to the people there. After retiring from the Missionary field, James and his wife Audrey moved to Mexia and became members of the First Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Lufkin Masonic Lodge # 669. James Is survived by his wife, Audrey Madden Duke, children whom he considered his own, ReJeania Canon and husband, Rodney of Boerne, Texas, James "David" Bollier and wife Tina of Auburndale, Florida and Weldon Edward Bollier and wife, Angella of Alvin, Texas, 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Jerry Wayne Duke of Gardendale, Texas. Memorial services will be held 2 PM Friday, April 14, 2017, at the First Baptist Church in Mexia with Reverend Marcus Sheffield officiating.
