James Eugene Howard, 79, of Mexia passed away February 14, 2013 in Waco, Texas. Funeral services will be 4PM, Sunday, February 17, 2013 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel with Rev. Jerry Johnson. Interment will be in Wilson Chapel Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6-8 p.m., Saturday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. James was born April 12, 1933 in Groesbeck, Texas to Freddie Jasper and Elizabeth Taylor Howard. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a seismograph surveyor for 40 years. James loved spending time with his family, fishing, hunting and golf. He was preceded by his parents; brother, Hugh Douglas Howard; two sisters, Cathy Elizabeth Winstead and Melva Currie; and grandson, Cyler Howard. James is survived by seven children, Douglas Eugene Howard and wife, Shirley, Gwendolynne Elaine Pruitt and husband, Frank, Glenna Faye Rhodes and husband, David, Brenda Diane Hanshaw and husband, Van, James Edward Howard and wife, Darinda, Charles Ray Howard and wife, Connie, and Keith Randall Howard; 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren brothers, Sydney Howard and Charles Howard; sisters, Nellie Mae McGary, Lillie Pearl Currie and Judith Ann Guest. He is also survived by his children's mother, Dora Mae Howard; and his friend, Jackie Cox. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
