James Huffman, 89, of Teague, Texas, passed away on January 6, 2025. Funeral services will be held at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 2:00 with Reverend Scott Matthews officiating. Visitation with the family will be prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in Teague, Texas. Pallbearers will be John Huffman, Howard Huffman, Lance Nichols, Warren Cheeney, Rich Vincent, and Mike Montgomery. Honorary pallbearers will be John Nichols, Gary Nichols, Lance Plummer, Kenneth Dunn, Gene Huffman, Mike Huffman, Kenneth Turner, Donnie Turner, and Waylon Oaks.
James was born on July 13, 1935, in Donie, Texas, to George Allen Huffman and Ola Mae Mason. He was the youngest of 11 siblings. He graduated from Teague High School and began his career at the Donie Chair Factory in Donie. He later worked for Signal Oil Company in Houston then went to work for Reliable Life Insurance where he retired.
After retirement, James and his wife, Linda, moved back to Teague, where he helped his sister-in-law, Sue Nichols, run her local restaurant. He thoroughly enjoyed hosting and working as a cashier, spending his days reconnecting with old friends and meeting new ones.
James had a deep love for animals, adopting any dog or cat that crossed his path. He was also passionate about feeding and observing birds and squirrels from his favorite chair after working outdoors. His hobbies included playing poker, especially Texas Hold'em, watching the horse races at the track, dancing, and building bluebird houses.
James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Nichols Huffman; his parents, George Allen Huffman and Ola Mae Mason; his six brothers, Clayton, George, Howard, Dale, Kenneth, and Harvey; and his four sisters, Mavis, Ruth, June, and Chloe.
He is survived by his three sisters-in-law, Sue Nichols of Teague, Jennifer Parson and her husband, Bobby, also of Teague, and Nell Huffman of Pasadena. He also leaves behind over 85 nieces, and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
