James Edwin Hitt passed away December 26, 2022 and is now at peace in the presence of our Lord Jesus. He was born and raised in Mexia, TX and he graduated from South Oak Cliff High School in 1959. He went on to study at the University of Texas in Arlington. The majority of his professional career was in real estate, but he also was the President of Oak Cliff Jaycees and Director of Oak Cliff Chamber of Commerce. He loved coaching for his daughters many softball and basketball teams when they were younger and later enjoyed serving as a school bus driver for years as well as driving for the Senior Center at Plano Parks and Recreation. He was a man of faith and loved spreading God's word. He participated in several mission trips across the US and Central America in his retirement, including missions in Mexico, Brazil, Costa Rica and New York City just to name a few.
He is survived by his daughters Darla Herman and her husband Mark, Jana Shaw and her husband Barron, Jessica Mather and her husband Jaime, his sister Sandra Watts, his grandchildren Jacob Herman, Hazel Herman, Grace Anne Shaw, Abigail Shaw, Isabella Mather and Lennon Mather.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Ruby Hitt and his wife Evelyn LaDean Hitt.
Funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home in Mexia, TX with Rev. Jaime McGlothin officiating. Visitation with the family will be prior to the service beginning at 11am.
