Janet was born February 16, 1948, in Mexia, Texas to Vernon Oswald Vinson and Emma Ruth (Palmour) Vinson, both of Mexia. She graduated from Mexia High School, Class of 1966. Janet married Frank Duncan on May 28, 1966, and they were blessed with 2 girls, Sherrie and Becky, and, later, in life God blessed them with a 14-year-old son, George (Sam) Ray.
Janet loved her family and friends dearly and enjoyed spending time with them. When visitors came and it was time for them to leave, she would always follow their goodbye’s with, “Y’all don’t have to run off.” She loved being outside working in the yard. One of her favorite past times was picking up pecans with her sister Dorothy, and they always had a little burn pile going while they were picking up pecans; she also enjoyed fishing. She loved animals of all kinds, there were many times she found baby rabbits while she was mowing and picked them up and raised them until they were big enough to be turned loose. In her younger years she and her best friend, Betty, would spend time riding her beloved horse, Apache. She and Apache also participated in some barrel racing during the local rodeo. Janet retired, with 35 years of service from the Mexia State School.
Janet enjoyed living a simple life, it didn’t take a lot to make her happy, and she never met a stranger. She always treated everyone, no matter who they were, just as she wanted to be treated, with respect.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Becky Duncan Blalock; and a grandchild, Amber Hendrick.
She is survived by her husband of almost 57 years, Frank Duncan, sister, Dorothy Vinson Duncan, daughter, Sherrie Duncan Price, son and daughter-in-law, George (Sam)Ray and Samantha Beene, all of Tehuacana, grandchildren, Corey Price and wife, Deundria, Samuel Ray and wife, Jazmine, Michael Stell and wife, Stephani, Maihgan Stell, Haley Sandifer and husband, Cameron, and Trendon Hagen; and seven great-grandchildren.
