Jerry Douglas Boyd, 74, of Mexia, passed away March 8, 2016 at Providence Hospital in Waco, surrounded by his loving family. Jerry was born November 17, 1941 in Lubbock, Texas to William Neil and Elena Josephine Deleshaw Boyd, one of 12 children. He grew up in Lubbock where he, also, married his high school sweetheart, Ida M. Drury, on February 4, 1960. In 1968, they moved to Mexia to be near other family members. Jerry learned the trade of dry walling, a trade that served him well for over 50 years. He became well known throughout the Mexia area for his good work, competency and reliability. He worked not only for himself, but for numerous contractors. Jerry and Ida, along with their four children, made their home in Mexia. Jerry was a quiet man who enjoyed living a simple life consisting of working hard and providing for his family. His family was his pride and joy. After Jerry became a grandfather, he acquired the unique name of "Ha Ha" from his first born grandchild, Coby. He was always tickling him saying ha ha, therefore, this name became known to all his grandchildren and others. Jerry loved having his family together for meals, at any time. Like most families, Christmas was a special family event. However, buying gifts for Jerry was almost forbidden. He told his family that he had all he wanted, just being surrounded by his family with everyone healthy and happy was enough for his Christmas. After 10 great-grandsons, the oldest being 16 years old, he recently got his special orders, two great-granddaughters or as he referred to them as his "Ponies". He dearly loved his great-grandsons, but having these great-granddaughters was just the "icing on the cake" that made his last year of life a little happier. Jerry also enjoyed hunting, fishing and reading good books. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, James L. Boyd; daughter-in-law, Christine Spruiell Boyd; six brothers; and one sister. Jerry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ida Boyd of Mexia; children, Kathy Anderson and husband, Ronnie of Willow Park, TX, Jerry Dale Boyd of Mexia, Leana Dabney and husband, Steven of Mexia and Carmen Kuehn and husband, Wesley of Tehuacana; grandchildren, Coby Sterling and wife, Robyn, Taylor Conklin and husband, Ryan, Cory Anderson, Christopher Boyd, Jennifer Boyd and spouse, Amanda, Shane Dabney and wife, Haley, Tera Dabney, Dillon Dabney and wife, Destiney, Bradly Brady and April Pruitt, Whitney Brady, Lauren Taylor and husband, Joey and Josh Kuehn; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Wayne, Heavy, Dayton and Bud Boyd; numerous nieces and nephews; and his faithful dog and companion, Freddy. In honoring Jerry's wishes, there will be no public service.
