Jewell Hardin

Ruby Jewell Hardin, 100, of Prairie Hill, passed away October 21, 2013 at the Windsor Manor in Groesbeck, Texas. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 24, 2013 at Prairie Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Fred Sain officiating. Interment will follow in the Prairie Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 1:00-2:00 p.m., Thursday at Prairie Hill Baptist Church. Jewell was born November 23, 1912 in Delia Texas to Callie C. Spivey and Mae Price Spivey. She graduated from Prairie Hill High School in 1929. Jewell married J. D. "Jap" Hardin in 1930 and they welcomed their only son, James D. in 1931. After receiving a Cosmetology Certificate at Truman's Waco Beauty School, she opened and operated her own beauty shop for 30 years. Jewell was baptized in 1925 and became a faithful servant in the Prairie Hill Baptist Church and in the community. She was talented in quilting and baking Italian Cream Cakes, winning blue ribbons and raising money at Prairie Hill Fall Festivals. Jewell, also, managed the Prairie Hill lunchroom for 12 years. She was a member for over 50 years of Prairie Hill Order of Eastern Star #159 and, after consolidation, Groesbeck #810. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son; grandson, Bill Hardin; sister, Olva Jackson; and brothers, Connor and Charles Spivey. Jewell is survived by her sister, Sally Sain and husband, Rev. Fred Sain; three grandchildren, Suellen Garza, Craig Hardin and Jan Soechting; five great-grandchildren; and two nieces and two nephews. Pallbearers will be Stell Waldrop, Jr., Charles Spivey, Brett Spivey, George Garza, Lee Garza and Steven Polino. The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the staff of Windsor Manor Nursing Home of Groesbeck for the excellent care given to their Jewell. Jewell requested no flowers; memorials may be made to the Prairie Hill Baptist Church.
