Jimmy Spurlock, of Mexia, passed away August 13, 2019 in Waco, Texas at the age of 73. A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 17, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Bill Wright, Jr. officiating.
Jimmy was born December 27, 1945 in the rural area of Farmerville, Louisiana to J D and R V Bridges Spurlock. He graduated from Farmerville High School, Class of 1963. After graduation, he came to Mexia to visit his brother and sister-in-law, Mack and Bennie Spurlock. Bennie introduced him to Betty Ingram, they married March 11, 1966 and were blessed with one son, Darrell. Although, Jimmy never outgrew his love for his Louisiana home, Mexia has been his home for the last 52 years. He was a truck driver most of his life, retiring from Aggregate Haulers in Mexia.
Jimmy had an outgoing personality, a kind caring heart and was willing to help anyone he could. He loved his family, friends and possessed a special love for all kids. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising cattle and, in his younger days, riding horses. He was also known to his co-workers as "Redman" due to his habit of chewing Redman tobacco.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J D and R V Spurlock; brothers, Grayson, Mack and wife, Bennie and infant brother, Johnnie; sisters, Billie Ruth Jarrell, Callie Frost, Kathelene Bryan and Mary Spurlock; brothers-in-law, James Lummus and David Montgomery; and sister-in-law, Perri Ingram.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Betty; son, Darrell Spurlock; nephew (like a son), Mike Jarrell; sisters, Martha Rockett and Betty Stidham; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Royce Jarrell, Steve Frost, Kenny Bryan, Sharron and Fred Samford, Jan Montgomery, Jimbo and Sissie Ingram, Johnny Ingram and Tricia and Bill Wright, Jr.; his always faithful companion, Jethro; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
