John Robert Barham, Sr. of Mexia passed away July 14, 2010 at his home after a short battle with cancer. The services will be at the First Baptist Church at 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 17, 2010 with Rev. Marcus Sheffield officiating. Interment will follow in the Mexia Cemetery with Masonic Graveside Rites. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 pm, Friday at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. John was born in Mexia on January 29, 1941 to E. J. and Imogene Barham and spent most of his life in Mexia. He was educated in Mexia and graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Masters of Education. John taught school in Mildred and Mexia for a total of 29 years. He also owned a feed store in Mexia and was a rancher. His greatest joys were his two grandchildren and his cows. He loved to travel and spent last summer in Alaska with his wife and grandson. He was a member of the Springfield Masonic Lodge #74, First Baptist Church, served for many years on the Whiterock Water Board of Directors and a member of the Mexia Bass Club. He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Weempe Barham; one son, Robert Barham and wife, Wendi; two grandchildren, Calee Brooke and Colton Lee Barham all of Watt; and brother, Bennett Barham of Houston. John was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ann Barham Butler. Pallbearers will be James Dawley, Walter Van DeWeghe, Jerry Crawley, Randy Butler, Bill Ward and Jimmy Owens.
