John Douglas, Jr.

John Calvin Douglas, Jr., 86, of Mexia passed away January 15, 2010 in Mexia. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Sunday, January 17, 2010 at Blair-Stubbs Chapel. Mr. Gary Petty will officiate with interment to follow in the Prairie Grove Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 PM, Saturday at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Junior was born October 13, 1923 in Mexia, Texas to John Calvin and Margie (Shamblin) Douglas. He was a lifelong resident of the Mexia area. Junior spent his entire life doing what he loved, farming and ranching. He took care of his cows until his death. He loved the country. He was a hard worker, loved his cows and enjoyed watching crops grow. His family and farm were his pride and joy. Junior earned many honors while serving his country in the U. S. Army. He received the Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Theater Campaign Medal, EAME Campaign Medal with 1 Bronze Star, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and Bronze Star Medal. He was a member of United Church of God. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Buck Douglas; and sisters, Jenny Pearl Edon, Pauline Robertson, Mary Lou Stewart and Minnie Lee Phillips. Junior is survived by his wife, Juanita Douglas, sons, John Michael Douglas and wife, Linda and James David Douglas; grandsons, Jonathan Wade Douglas and wife, Aspen, Jacob Ross Douglas and Jordan Ryan Douglas; sister, Bonnie Jean Roberts; and many nephews and nieces. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Douglas, Jacob Douglas, Jordan Douglas, Billy Edon, Charles Sims and Charles Little. Memorials may be made to Providence Hospice of Mexia or charity of choice.
