John Horn Jr.

John Paxton Horn, Jr., 59, passed away July 18, 2014 at his home in Groesbeck. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home in Mexia with Pastor John L. Cashaw, Jr. officiating.. Interment will follow in the Lost Prairie Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6-8 p.m., Monday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. John was born October 5, 1954 in Mexia, Texas to John Paxton Horn, Sr. and Lois Mae Tumlinson Horn. He grew up and lived in Groesbeck his entire life. He had worked for Chapman Construction Company and Frost Construction. John was a simple man who enjoyed living a simple life. Just give him the great outdoors and he was happy. He enjoyed fishing, camping and Blues music. John was an excellent gardener who could grow anything with very little effort. He was a collector of coins and knives, which he also enjoyed sharpening. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sandra Kay Horn Chapman. John is survived by his niece, Christina Ray of Groesbeck; two great-nieces, Lexus Vine and Brianna Ray both of Groesbeck; aunts, Mary Beth Owen of Groesbeck and Betty Mindenhall of OK; uncle, Elvis Tumlinson of Livingston; a number of cousins and other relatives; and numerous friends. Pallbearers will be Lee Thornton, Tom Hirleman, Doug Aills, Dewayne Forge, Miles Owen, Charles McDaniel. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Owen, Alvin Chapman and Boomer West.
