John H. Focke III, M.D. of College Station passed peacefully from this earth on February 12, 2013. Funeral services are scheduled for 11AM, Saturday, February 16 at First Presbyterian Church of Mexia, TX with Rev. Tom Prentiss and Rev. George Klett officiating. Graveside services will follow in the Mexia City Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10AM, Saturday, at the church. John was born December 27, 1946 in Mexia to Lola Margret (Johnston) Focke and John Herman Focke, Jr. He graduated Valedictorian from Mexia High School in 1965. He attended Texas A&M University, earning a B.S. in Chemistry and an M.S. in Biochemistry. He was a proud member of the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets and Fightin' Texas Aggie Band '69. He received his Medical Degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center-Houston in '75 and completed an Internship and Residency in Family Medicine from John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth in 1978. He returned to his hometown of Mexia and became a much-loved and successful Family Physician, and would later have practices in Pampa and Winnsboro as well. He accepted a Staff position at A.P. Beutel Student Health Center in 1999 at TAMU, treating A&M students, where he worked until his semi-retirement. He was as avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, golf and flying his private plane until his disability later precluded these activities. He was a past-President of the Mexia Rotary Club, an Eagle Scout, and avid supporter of youth athletic teams. John supported all things "Aggie" through donations to the 12th Man Foundation, Association of Former Students, The Texas Aggie Band Association and as a season ticket holder. He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in College Station where he participated in the Handbell Choir and was also a member of the Brazos Valley Community Band continuing his lifelong love of performing music. He was preceded in death by his parents. John is survived by his wife of 39 years Maggi Connell Focke of College Station, children John B. (Joby) Focke of Plano, Scott Focke and wife Jennifer of Denton, Megan Focke Barr and husband Jesse of N. Mankato, MN, and grandsons Caiden & Ryker Focke and Jaxon Barr. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Libby Freeman of Snook and Phylliss Connell of Mexia and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
